Georgiy Maximilian Orr!!

Legally adopted this afternoon at 12.30 pm!!!

Court was tense. He was the very first child with Down's Syndrome in this area ever to be adopted and the judge did not understand why we wanted to adopt a " very sick child" and grilled us for a nice long time. She shook her head several times....things were a bit hairy for a bit there. Then the orphanage director explained to her that Georgiy will go to the "house of invalids" if he does not get adopted, and he will likely die there, as many kids with special needs who have gone there before him have. That poor orphanage director, she looked like she was going to throw up!

Finally, the judge broke out in a smile and said something to our facilitator to translate for us. Except our facilitator began to cry and could barely give us the message.( she is just such a sweetheart!) The message?

"We thank you for adopting this child. We wish him much happiness. You have done the people of Ukraine a great service"

We feel very blessed to be his parents and we want to thank the people of Ukraine for giving him to us to raise. He is a wonderful little boy.

So here is our new son!

Just letting you know we are following along every day, and I cried when I read what the judge told you. How blessed you are to welcome this little guy to your lives!
You may remember he is the one I really wanted to get, but was just not ready to commit yet. I'm SOOOO happy that you have him, that he has a loving mom and dad, and family.
YOu are in for the best ride of your lives!
WHen you get home, feel free to write to me and I can maybe help you through some of the ropes of bringing home an "older" child.
GIve Georgie and kiss for me, and tell him he is much loved by many.

Oh Anna, thanks for the pictures. He is darling. Wow, court sounds like it was scary--but how cool that the judge changed her demeanor.

Congratulations!! He is such a handsome little guy! We were the first to adopt a child with DS from our region too and got grilled in court. Very uncomfortable.

I like your post where you thought Russia was invading, by the way! Hilarious! That was so something I would do! lol!!

Enjoy your little man! He's an angel!

Congrats!! I loved your post about the caregivers at the orphanage. It is good to know that he has been well loved. It's even better to know that he will continue to be loved by his own family for the rest of his life. God bless you and your family.
